I was going through my library full of my photos of Hallstatt and I realized that I could still remember vividly the little details of the trip that made it al so memorable.
I could still envisage the feeling when I stood in awe the very minute I stepped onto the soil of Hallstatt.
I could still envisage the feeling when I stood in awe the very minute I stepped onto the soil of Hallstatt.
It was cloudy yet there was an air of tranquillity that enveloped you without you realizing it.
It was already five plus is the afternoon and many had gone back to their houses leaving only a few tourists exploring this little town of such exquisite beauty.
I remembered clearly that the following morning I woke up early enough to hear the rumblings of the little boat ferrying the first passengers into Hallstatt, breaking the sense of serenity in the early hours in the morning where the sun has yet to rise majestically in the east.
I could remembered that when I arrived I yearned and hoped that tomorrow the clouds would have disappeared leaving crystal clear blue sky to brighten up our days.
That very morning itself saw the sun illuminating the lake with its distinctive ray of warmth and splendour as if the heavens were smiling on all the inhabitants of this little place.
I did remember going for an early morning walk, negotiating the narrow alleys of cobblestones route and even took the time to jump into a cable car up into the higher grounds of the town itself, leaving you astonishingly mesmerized by the kaleidoscope of stunning images of the surrounding countryside and the lake in the centre.
There were some men that even went trekking into the woods.
I was adventurous enough to follow them as I want sure what they would find along the way.
I snapped countless of photos as the crystal clear stunning blue sky was the ideal background that anyone could yearn for when it comes to getting some memorable shots to bring home.
I discovered that trekking along the narrow alley of cobblestones routes which could be steep at certain places and explore the higher plains was really energy consuming tasks yet so refreshing with the cool temperature of the environment.
It looked like a maze without any distinctive end yet you would keep walking, eager to see what would appear along the way.
The next thing you know, when you turned around, you witness this astonishing spectacle of an uneven arrayof unique looking houses stacked up in a way that followed the curvature of the hill slope with he church stood majestically in the centre overlooking the rest of the humble looking abodes.
What a sight that would hold you in awe.
In such spectacular place it was only natural to find a hotel that would be in the forefront of all the houses with an unhindered view of the lake so that when you wake up, no matter how early in the morning, you would be greeted with the sounds of chirping birds and the cool breeze before the sun would illuminate you to an unparalleled sight beyond words.
It might be a little more expensive yet you always comfort yourself by saying that you travelled so many thousands of miles and it was only natural to be greeted by the best possible scenery so that your memories are a little more complete.
The challenge was that I stayed on the fourth floor and the was no lift at all.
If you are travelling light it would never be an issue at all however I was dragging along a twenty kilogrammes luggage and was in my third leg of my adventure in Europe.
To enjoy the experience in a whole hearted manner it would only be natural to expect a lot of walking so building up your stamina before venturing to such an oasis of splendour would help a lot along the way unless you feel like taking a lot of pit stops along the way.
By evening it was already time to bid farewell to this place of exquisite beauty and walking with a heavy heart to the pier waiting for the next boat to take you away from the paradise that you have fallen in love with at first sight.
You felt a sense of disappointment yet you placate yourself by whispering in your own heart that you would find your way back again to this oasis of rare gem, camouflaged by the array of mountains seemingly protecting it from the destructive forces of development.
The cold breezed caressed your eyes for one last time as you walked with a heavy heart onto the boat that would transport you back to the reality of life.
Hallstatt remained a rare jewel of exquisite beauty.
Yet Hallstatt has one great lesson that needed to be fully embraced.
That the whole experience would only be truly complete if you are with someone that you yearn to spend your life with.
Hallstatt remained true and faithful to the fact that completeness can only be found in pairs.
