I jumped into a train that would take me to my next destination.
This was not part of the original plan.
When I enquired from a friend of mine where should I visit after my first stop in the country, she immediately told me about this little place with a scenic mountainous background that would leave me awestruck.
When I pushed for more information she told me that I just needed to stay around the signature lake and everything else would be perfect.
I never really understood what she actually meant.
The hotel was about five minutes walk from the train terminal which made things very much hassle free indeed.
One of the lessons learned while travelling in Europe was to find hotels which would be a walking distance from the train station especially if you are travelling from one country to another in Europe.
With a huge luggage mobility was always an issue so the best way would always be to check in the hotel, unpacked your luggage and only ventured out after that.
The hotel room was comfortable and before long I was already out, eager to find the signature lake.
Weather was cool and chilly yet it was a clear blue sky with cumulus clouds interspersed at a few different corners of the sky.
I had a simple lunch first whereby I could find a spectacle of buildings with unique architecture synonymous with European settings across the water ways.
I was eager to walk over yet in order to do that I had to take a ten minute slow walk in a unique looking covered bridge to the other side where all the buildings are situated.
You could find swans playfully swimming in the water near the bridge and many tourists would try to take photos with the swans in the background.
Many restaurants with patrons, smiling and joking in their conversations, sitting outside over looking the water ways.
Most were oblivious to their surroundings.
Many were focused on their companion or friends, chatting away in a delightful manner.
You could sense an air of comfort and jovial atmosphere enveloping the whole area over there.
Yet you couldn’t help but to admire the exquisite designed buildings that decorated the side of the waterways.
Under the bright sunny light, they really looked majestic and awesome in their own way.
I took a stroll further down the road.
When I looked around, the mountain stood majestically erected as if guarding the whole township.
It was a sight of rare beauty especially in such a splendid cool breezy weather with enough illuminating sunlight to transform every dull moment into a refreshing change.
Just across the street, I could find the lake that I was looking for.
Some friends huddled around each other for a light chat.
Others were busy taking a bite of the food that they brought.
A few we’re busy feeding the pigeons.
Many more were waiting to board the boats anchored at the pier, presumably to take the scenic ride around the lake.
I could see many more boats anchored in the middle of the lake, with some jumping into the water to have a good swim.
I took a trip in one of the boats for a three hour scenic ride.
One that I though was very much worth it.
You would be entertained with breath taking view of the lake apart from the arrays of buildings that seemed to look so majestic in their own way under the illuminating rays of the sun.
The boat ride is a joyful one especially if you do not have a very heavy programme.
Coming to this kind of place is about leaving work behind and finding ways to just live the moment on its own.
I bumped into a Japanese guy on my second day back to the lake who told me that he was actually on an adventure with shoe string budget, munching away his sandwich as he shared with me how was his experience so far.
Further down the vicinity of the lake , you could easily find a bakery shop for a cup of macchiato.
Sitting outside, relaxing and just watching the people walked past was indeed a luxury yet sometimes a necessity to take a moment of escapade from the hellish atmosphere of our work.
This is precisely an escapade worth every single penny.
Yet the best way to enjoy was probably never to maximize the your days stacked withplans to so many places to the extent that it was more like a touch and go kind of excursion.
I would prefer one where you never set a rigid time frame of what you really want to do yet you only have a few places in mind to visit with enough time to slot in many sessions of coffee break or visiting some of the churches where you could sense an air of tranquillity when you entered and sat for the briefest moment in time of solitude.
Appreciating your own company sometimes allowed a greater understanding of ourselves.
The two days that I spent at this wonderful little place rejuvenated me in many different ways and impressed upon me that a quiet getaway in a place of such unique beauty is a truly marvellous adventure.
I have to thank my friend for introducing me to Lucerne.
This is really one place that I would love to step onto its soil again in the very near foreseeable future.
