Having you as my physics lecturer, make me know we can apply Physic in our daily life and physic is no longer a studying subject by memorizing the formula in every single theory that we learned. And now, I am totally and madly in love with physic.
Without you, I would not know that ‘Physic is a not a subject but a joke.’
    Thank you very much.

I find you to be different from other Physics lecturers that I have come across. In fact you teach us in a rare style. As I have observed the way you explain and define the different elements in Physics, I feel that you act more like an engineer than a lecturer. No physics lectuer goes as far as observing movies and the nature to bring the understanding to his students.
As you always say, ”Everything is Physics.” This I agree with you. See I have been paying attention to your lectures or it would be more proper if Isay enjoyed your insights of the world.
Last but not least, I thank you for sincerely caring for us. Not forgetting your friendliness I hereby crown you with “The Crown of the most Friendliest Physics Lecturer in My Lifetime So Far’! Hope to see you again.

Mr.Tan is a good lecturer in terms of delivering his lecturers clearly and his lectures are sufficient. I remembered my secondary school physics teacher was like. She was so soft spoken a not impaired hearing could become impaired by her. She does not even know what she is teaching and we as students even corrected her of the mistakes. From there, I had very bad impressions on Physics teacher but when Mr. William said I need to take Physics, I dread it so much. It is like God has answered my nightmare or something. So I went to class half-heartedly. There was a shining like of glory, a man came in. A man no other than David Duchovny. Ops! Sorry, wrong illusion.
Whom I meant is you, Mr.Tan. You taught Physics in a much human way because my previous one was an android. Thanks for making all the classes enjoyable and educational because I never learn anything during secondary school. You even made assignments exciting and cool. Can I ask you something? Well, nothing personal.
Do you read our minds about assignments or just lucky guess? Well, Mr. Tan I just want to say you’re the best and probably I’ll see you in Physics II.

I feel that you have been a great teacher and friend, and I must say how much I respect and appreciate you, for all your labour and work. I know that sometimes we can be a real bunch of jerks, but, thank you for being so patient and understanding and so understanding to us. You have provided so much to us, I just hope that we ill embrace it whole heartedly, for by the life that you live in front of us you have become our beacon of guiding light shining very strongly in the nighht. You are our example. Thank you so much.
I hope you will continue being thegreat techeryou are. Words can never describe how much I appreciate and admire you. I hope that someday, when I teach Physics, if I ever teach Physics, I will be like you. I really have enjoyed PHY 101 immensely-not just because of the Physics, but also because of the teacher. Thank you for caring for us. Thank you for being a friend. Here’s a birthday song that I wroe specially for you.

Words and Music by:Jonathan Wong. Copyright reserved. One Voice Music
Sometimes, words are all better left unsaid,
“Cos there’s so many, crazy thoughts flying inmy head,
I don’t know why, I’m failing to express,
    My gratefulness…
But I give you credit, when I get it,
When I do not feel at loss,
“Cos its like forever, whenever I don’t understand a clause,
But every time, you assure and explain,
    All over again…
You’re are like a shower, on a hot and sweaty day,
A mamak stall in the dining halls of HELP’s own cafe
With your sunshine, you have given me an intellectual tan,
You’re my teacher, you are my friend.
You’re like hammer, when my grammer,
    Is really cannot pass,
When you teach me ‘alas’, ‘as well as’, the ally in the class,
Don’t get me wrong, we love you as you are,
    As you are…
There’s not an error, so terror,
    That you cannot fix,
You gave us knowledge, though your age is less than 56,
But like a dove, you fly above them all,
You seem to love us all
    That’s why I say…
    (Chorus)
So happy birthday, it’s your day
May it be the best, it’s ever been,
You may be ageing, like Beijing,
But to us you’ll always be the same,
So be assured, as you blow those candles out,
    You’ve touched our lives,
    And there’s no doubt…
    (Chorus)

** This song is actually written fore you…but in the middle I got a little stuck, so I refered it to an English teacher with all the grammar and all. However, I really meant it when I said that you are like a shower on a hot and sweaty day, a mamak stall in the dining halls of HELP’s own cafe. You are. Thank you so much, once again.

I personally would like to say that you are a very funny lecturer. Youlike to link the application of Physics against Blockbuster English Movie. This is because in your lecture, you always like to talk aout movie, movie and movie.
The style of lecture that you are giving to students are so much different from theothers, but it is definitely interesting. Maybe this is what makes you different and make you is Mr.Tan Bok Hooi.
However, in the few months with your lecture, I gain a lot. Though I’m not very good in physics but I can tell you that from now onwards I know what is physics about. Till then bye.

Honestly you are great. The way you teach is far better than my high school’s teacher. You have the technique to catch everyone’s attention. The greatest thing is that you like to give many simple examples for us to imagine and understand. I appreciate it a lot! I have learned a lot of things especially those general knowledge, which can’t find in the text book. Remember when we asked the movie about “Speed” and you explained it in Physics. WOW! And the secret behind the”BlackHoles … etc It really keeps the lessons interesting, fun and not boring.
I’m quite admired you for not browsing the text book while you are teaching.
All the lessons are stored in your mind and you just like to give your own words and the easy explanation for us to understand. From that moment, I knew that you are definitely a qualified lecturer with well experienced.

You are an experienced and qualified lecturer. I really admire the way you teach.
You are able to conduct the lecture without refering to the text book and able to
give your own explanation. Your notes are great and I can understand them quite clearly,
As for the assignments and exams, the questions offered are challenging.

Mr. Tan Bok Hooi is a good teacher. He does’nt seem to be like to be more like our friends instead. If you meet him anywhere, he would recognize you as his students and great you. During the lectures, the atmosphere is very ‘friendly’ and you won’t feel any pressures. This is good as students would act normal instead of acting seriously and this would makethe lectures more enjoyable. If you approached him to ask something that you do not understand, he would not hesitate to help you and guide you until you understand it.

am a science stream student, but unfortunately, I dislike physics. I hate the formulae, graphs and ….well, almost everything. Tell you honestly, sir, to my surprise, I found out that I have started to enjoy your class! The other lectures are sort of bored but your class is much more interesting. In other classes, I am silent. In your class, I am, well, sort of talkative, as you have seen.

You are handsome ( I am no the gay, O.K.), humor and successful career man. Every time I attend your class, I know that you are a film fan, don’t you, that is because you always tell us story about the movies. So, you have activated the class successfully, change the atmosphere into relax and brisk. I prefer you to carry on your teaching method even in the future.

Mr. Tan is quite friendly. When we attended his class, we all more like friends than teacher and students. We can discuss or debate the content of physics with him. He always find the evidence to prove his standpoints. Sometimes he will find the examples to support his lectures like told about thre popular movies such as Event Horizon, Air Force one and Men in Black and other fantastic movies. This method can say useful for us to understand the theory. But if we don’t see the movie, we cannot understand completely. When we don’t understand what he taught, we can also ask him to explain.

Tan, my Physics lecturer, is one of the coolest late twenties guy I have ever known. I know his looks might fool you but somehow, I think he is around 30.
Mr.Tan, generally is a nice guy. He is not those people who nag and criticise everything he particularly dislikes. I do not know about others but I think he is great,

Newton’s Law vs Kam Chin’s Law
From what I learned from my Physics class, Newton had three laws .But from my point of view, Kam Chin has three laws too.
    Kam Chin’s First Law
A student which is smart and intelligent will continue to do so and
A student which is a slow learner will improve with constant rate with the help from a physics teacher
    Kam Chin’s Second Law
    F=ma
A student will experience a fantastic moment if they have a marvelous and attentive physics teacher
    F=fantastic moment
    m=marvelous
    a=attentive
    Kam Chin’s Third Law
Like John Lennon said ”Life is what happens when we are busy making other plans.”
If we knew we’d die, we wouldn’t be born.
If we knew there was no future, we would abandon the journey
If people could read their destiny in a book, they would jump to the last page and miss all the fun!
So this is what you called Kam Chin’s Law.
And do you think I deserve to get Nobel Prize!
Hope to see you again and hope you ike it.
P/S: You done a good job!

Learning how certain equations were derived was interesting and helped to explain the ‘why’ instead of just memorizing the formulas. Signposting before exams on what formulas were important was very helpful.

After 15 weeks of attending I have learnt that chemistry is very interesting even though the subjects get dull at certain time, you haver the capability of making it very interesting and that is one thing I really admirer about you. I have also learnt many other things that most teachers don’t take the initiative to tell their student such as the black hole. Sir, you are a very knowledgeable and dedicated teacher. Though you are leaving at the end of this semester I will be very honoured to have been your student.

As you know, I have no foundation for Chemistry, what made me sign up for your class then? As I remember, When I first attend yoyr class, you gave me the impression that you willmake this class an interesting one. Times have proven me right. I can clearly see that you are trying your best to make this class interesting and easy for all of us. Unfortunately, there are people like me we don’t know how to appreciate it. I did pretty bad for my mid term because I thought that I could study at the very last minutes yet I was wrong. To be frank, I have no confident for my final either. Ishould of start confront you when I have problems yet I did’nt.
Howver, I have never regretted for signing up this class. As compared to the other subjects that i’m doing in this semester, Chemistry stand out to be the mostinteresting and pleasurable class for me.
This is because time passed very fast and break times are usually longer. In your class, even when you are lecturering, I feel like as if we were having some sort of internal discussion. This, I suppose made me and others enjoy the atmosphere of this class.
I guess it is worthy for me to mention this also. Even though you are a part-time lecturer, yet you are willing to spare times for students like me over the phone to discuss the problems that I face in chemistry.
Lastly, I wish you all the best in your future and I am sure that you will become a successful lecturer in the future with all the efforts that you put in.
    Best of luck! Bye!

During my chemistry class, I enjoyed our wonderful discussion. One of the things I thought of first was to write this letter to thank you for your help and understanding. Without your lessons, I wouldn’t know what is the subject about. Anyway, most of all, I do really appreciate the knowledge you have shared with us because I have learned something.
At least, I hope that you could forgive me if I ‘ve done something wrong during the class. Once again, thank you for your time and patience.

After being in your class for one semester, I have benefited tremendously from your teaching methods. I find the class a joy to go to as I can learn a lot from your lecture. Your endless devotion to our excellence in our excellence in chemistry have made me proficient in the subject.
Anyway, I pleased that you are wiling to help when I was facing a lot of difficulties in coping with the unfamiliar English terms. All in all, I would like to show my appreciation by saying a very big THANK YOU. I sincerely hope that you would be back to lecture us on Chemistry2 in the following semester.

You have a good sense of teaching.. For a lecturer, you are very good, you teach like a high school teacher (in a good way),meaning usually lecturers won’t give their students lots of info, but you did., and that is very good. As a science student, I really like your style of teaching. Very professional.

To cut it short, you are a very good lecturer. Very well prepared of your notes. Even though your lecture is a bit faster than other lecturers but with my ability and skill of hearing, it would be no problem. You got a good sense of humour, very well dress and friendly to all students.
In my conclusion, I would like to say thank you for all the things you have teach.
Hope to see you some other time. I mean not in Physics class. Some other subjects.

    This we owe thanks.
I have no background concerning physics but the diagrams, real life technique use have used to explain. This has given me a good understanding of physics. I know it is a fairly tough subject but in truth I have learned a lot from you, so do keep up the good work.

First of all, we find you very funny as you are kind of young to be a lecturer. Maybe that’s why we can relate to you better and talk to you in a much open and friendlier way.
Secondly, we know that you try hard to give your very best to us and we appreciate it.
And your knowledge about movies is astounding! Jerry McGuire, you remember!
Basically sir, you know your stuff and you do get the information across to us most of the time.

When I had my first class, the first impression that I gained was that this course would be fun and relaxing. I made up my mind at that very lecture that I would stick to this course. Your teaching style was quite interactive as you kept on asking about our own opinion and explanation about Physics. This makes us do a lot of ‘brainstorming. I particular liked this as it prevents me from falling asleep, not to mention the crack of jokes that sometimes you throw in, which is also quite soothing to our minds.

Mr. Tan’s Physics coaching sessions definitely provided a unique experience for me. Abstract physics concepts were explained thoroughly with numerous examples and analogies. Brainstorming sessions were continually encouraged and each concept was checked to be fully understood before we moved on. Overall a great teacher!
